• Hi,

My site is having a big problem with the patreon plugin. The loading time increases a lot after activating the plugin. The connection to Patreon seems to be the problem, as you see on the screenshots from the Query plugin.

Can you tell me why this is happening? I really want to use your plugin, but it’s impossible with this page speed.

    Best regards,
    bastbra

This is odd. No one else had this problem. And the plugin doesnt contact Patreon while saving posts. I see save_post action taking a whopping 9 seconds there. This cannot be related to contacting the Patreon api unless something is wrong with your installation. (Ie tiers are not possible to pull, your site lost connection to Patreon etc).

Also, have you hooked any other function or plugin to Patreon WordPress action hooks or filters?

At least not that I would know it. I just installed the plugin, changed the patreon account which was in it (I used my “private” public accout for test reasons before, then changed the data to my website account).

So did you experience any such issue while you were using your other Patreon account?

And how did you change accounts? What process did you follow? Because, if you dont properly disconnect your site from Patreon before connecting to another account, there may be artifacts remaining in options from your earlier account.

The loading times were already long, also before I changed the account.

I think I just clicked on the “disconnect”-button and then I connected it again to the other account. Did I do something wrong with this?

Using disconnect button was the right thing to do. Then we can scratch it out from the list.

Are your tiers appearing correctly in the post dropdown? Or is there anything odd with it?

Also, do you have Patron Plugin Pro?

I’m using the standard plugin, I thought about upgrading, but it should work for that and not load such a long time.

And yeah, I guess there shouldn’t be something wrong with that.

Here’s a link to the page. Hopefully that helps fixing this issue.

No, upgrading to Pro version is not relevant to this. Your benchmark report shows that your site is slowing down during save_post action. Which is probably happening while you are saving the posts you are editing or saving new posts, correct?

You may try disabling all plugins except Patreon WordPress and then seeing if the slowness still continues.

Should be, but I wasn’t editing a post.

And no, I can’t disable every other plugin, because I have a website with traffic and users and I can’t just deactivate everything, because that would be very bad for the visitors.

Okay, I checked the trouble mode and only activated the plugin and Query to check the loading time. Same issue. Not 9 seconds loading time, but 2 – 3 seconds for Patreon WordPress.

It’s not a conflict, there have to be something wrong with the plugin.

Considering that you are the only one reporting this over 4000+ sites with plugin installed, and how this is not reproducable in a reference test installation of latest WP and the plugin, this is something specific to the setup at your site.

    Where are you hosted?

Do you think that could be the problem? I never had a problem with that. Maybe my theme, Gridlove, could be it?

Themes may cause such situations if there is backend code involved inside the theme. You can temporarily switch to another theme (preferably a WP default one) and test if this will affect anything.
