    PHP-Version 7.4.33
    WordPress 6.6.2
Download Monitor from Version 5.0.13 to 5.0.15 (5.0.13 at the moment)
    Other major Plugins (WooCommerce, WPML)
Theme: irrelevant (another website with the same theme does not have these problems).

We have an awkward issue in one of our client websites (please see details above).
The Version 5.0.14 und 5.0.15 don’t work at all (all Links lead to a 404 page), refreshing permalinks does not work. For this reason we have to revert to 5.0.13. When the Plugin is fresh installed there are no issues, but if the WordPress Permalinks are updated, it leads here also to all download-links pointing to 404. It’s the opposite of the solution you point on your support docs. Updating permalinks makes everything worse and forces us to make a fresh installation again (only up to 5.0.13). Any clues?

    Hello @mihue,

Thank you for reaching out and providing the details! I apologize for the delayed response!

I’d like to confirm: are you currently using version 5.0.13 of Download Monitor? That might explain why I was able to download files without issue during my visit.

The behavior you described—404 errors after updating permalinks—is unusual. Could you confirm if this happens only with versions 5.0.14 and 5.0.15? Any details about permalink structure or server configurations (like caching) could also help.

Looking forward to your reply so we can work on resolving this!

    Best regards,

    Beatrice.

Thank you for the Feedback and sorry for the late reply. Yes, at the moment we are using Version 5.0.13, as the downloads need to keep working. The problem after updating Permalinks happens only with the Version 5.0.13, as the newer Versions don’t even work from the beginning (404 direct after installation). Our permalink structure for WP is”site/%category%/%postname%/” . Caching is not being used at the moment.

    Hello @mihue,

Could you please update to our latest version (5.0.17) and give it another try?

If the issue persists, it might be caused by a plugin conflict or your theme. I recommend installing this helpful plugin: Health Check & Troubleshooting. Once installed and activated, you can use its Troubleshooting mode. This feature creates a temporary vanilla WordPress environment just for your user, where all plugins are disabled, and a default theme (like Twenty Twenty-One) is used—don’t worry, your visitors will still see your site as normal.

In Troubleshooting mode, activate only Download Monitor to see if it works correctly with a default theme and no other plugins.

Please let me know how it goes!

    All the best,

    Beatrice.

    Hi Beatrice,
Thank you for your reply. I installed the Version 5.0.17 and the error persists. I had to roll back to 5.0.13. I will try the Health Check as you have suggested and will report if I find something.
    Best regards, Miriam
