• I have a free trial with a Web Tracker software provider set up, and they’ve sent me some code to set it up with. They’ve given me a ‘how to’ guide, specific to WordPress, which reads as follows:

    Appearance>Editor
Then find the header.php (on the right)

Then insert the code just above the </head> tag.

This seems to be the same advice as I’m finding on online forums. However, I tried this and within the Sela theme I don’t seem to be able to get access to the code – there is no Editor tab on my Appearance menu. I can get into the Customize option on Sela, but that only allows me to add new rules to the CSS. Can I add the code within there? And if so how?

Would be great if anyone could help me with this.

  • Is your site hosted on WordPress.COM, by chance? If so, you can’t modify any files like that. And you’re on the forums for the self-hosted version of WP which is totally different – see:

If your site is at tmethermometers.com then it is indeed hosted on WordPress.com, so it’s not possible to edit the theme files.

(Even if you were self-hosted on your own hosting, their recommendation to edit the theme files directly is a poor one, as the change would be wiped out after every theme update.)

If you let me know what the tracker tool does specifically, I can let you know if WordPress.com offers anything similar.
