    Hi there,

Whenever I cut and paste a section from a previous post into a new one, all the formatting is lost. (Basically I have generic ending, with several embedded links and various bits of formatting – headings, bold, etc. This is what I paste across).

Since I upgraded to 3.9, the formatting simply won’t transfer, even though this is an ‘internal’ wordpress move. This always worked previously and I’m not doing anything different. I’ve tried everything I can think of to make this work.

Ideas gratefully received – this is frustrating!

    Thanks.

  • What editors are you using for this copy’n’paste process?

I am simply using the copy and paste functions within Safari.

What editors in WordPress are you using for this copy’n’paste process?

Sorry, I might be misunderstanding you, but what I do is:

Highlight the text on the currently existing post > right click > copy
Then go to my new post in edit mode, click where I want the text to go > right click > paste.

    Is that what you mean?

    Thanks!

Are you using the WordPress Text or Visual Editors or both?

I’ve tried both (previously I could just do it straight into the Visual Editor).

(Thanks for clarifying your question – sorry for being dim!)

The formatting will not be preserved if you copy content from the Visual editor in one Post to another Post. The Visual editor simply does not wok like that. If you use the Text editor, then all of your formatting may be lost when you switch back to the Visual editor.

Thanks so much esmi – I’ve just copied from the Text editor in the old post and then pasted into the Text editor in the new post and it worked, all the formatting transferred. Hooray!

I appreciate your speedy (and patient!) responses – thank you for your time ??

Glad to hear that we finally got it sorted. ??
