passwords not working when adding new users

  • We are having some issues with passwords and people being able to log into our members side of the website.

    2 issues that I think are related.

    1 – when we as admins add a new user, create their password and approve them for the website. They cannot log in – as the password we originally put won’t work.
    If we then go in as an admin and edit their profile, and add the same exact password and save it again. Then they can log in.

    2 – a large number of current members on our website can’t log in with their passwords they have been using and are having to reset it.

    (My assumption/hunch is they were still using the default password we made when we first created their account in the last few months and whatever has made the first round of passwords not work, is why they cant log in.)

    Any thoughts on what we should try? Everything has been updated on the site. I am not sure how long this issue has been happening as someone just let me know they haven’t been able to log in for a few weeks.

    Do you have any other user management plugins installed and active? For example, User Memberships or User Role plugins? They may be having a conflict and creating this issue.

    Thank you for your reply and help! We are using WP user roles also, so we will do a conflict test on them.
