I recently bought a new Mac Air and installed WordPress but it’s telling me my username or password is wrong. Yet when I use the same login on my old mac air, it lets me in!
The new mac is running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, the old mac is still on OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard).
I am using WP version 4.1 and my host is Hostgator.
I removed and reinstalled WP but it hasn’t fixed the problem.
I’ve taught myself the coding I need to know to build and manage my site but other than that I’m flying blind so I’m not sure what to try next.

  • Hayley,

Are you typing your password in on both Macs or has the ‘Snow Leopard’ Mac remembered it for you and is entering it automatically?

When you say you are using WP 4.1 on Hostgator, are you putting the same domain name in on both macs, does it start https://www. or https://192. or https://10.

Also which browser are you using on each Mac to try and log in?

this issue might be because of the web server configuration on both OS X versions. If the same wordpress zip is working on the older version and not on new. Then the high probability is that the web server is not configured properly.

compare the config, and then try with fresh installation on both versions.

Hi Drew, sorry your replies went into my junk folder. I’m having a great time with WordPress at the moment!
The Snow Leopard Mac remembered my password but I reset it when I had problems on Yosemite and still have the same problem.
The URL is the same on both Macs – haymeadowstories.com.au/wp-login.php
I’m using Firefox on both machines.

thanks Dinesh. Excuse my ignorance, how do I find the web server configuration on the mac?

I just got it working. The Snow Leopard mac had an older version of wordpress so I copied the old version across to the new mac, reset the password again, and it worked.
I had no idea why but as long as it’s working that’s all that matters!
