• Hi – The Email as username plugin seems outdated. Is this still the recommended way to achieve email as username?

    Thanks

I’m not entirely sure which plugin you’re referring to as there are a couple out there. I have a premium plugin available that does work but it is being phased out in favor of login with email or username being incorporated into the plugin in a future version (likely 3.2.1).

Okay great – thanks for your response. What’s the timeline for 3.2.0 (my previous thread) and then 3.2.1 (this thread) – just need to decide if should buy the premium plugin to fill the gap. My site needs to go live next month.

    Thank you again

    Chad,
This is the plugin I was referring to… Can you please advise for email as username going live and if it’s more than two weeks away can you point me in the direction of the best plugin in your opinion.

    Thanks

Sorry for the delayed response – priority support does take priority and I haven’t been able to get over here to www.remarpro.com for free support as often.

Yes, the premium extension does still work and can be used. It is available to premium support subscribers. However, as I mentioned, it is not really a recommended method.

There is a set of code snippets on the premium support site that describe how to customize to allow login with email OR username. I have updated this post to be freely available to everyone (including users who have not subscribed to support) because this is going to be phased into the core plugin in the near future. So in the meantime, until that is completed, you can use this customization to accomplish the same thing:

For those that do not know how to use code snippets, there is a general “help” post on the site as well that describes how to use custom code snippets:
