Since our site was updated to 4.7.3 our users that have try to reset their password get stuck in a infinite loop of type in your email or username. The system emails them an email with a link like: https://www.sitename.com/password-reset/?submitted=yes&loginName=username&key=evetRtc49r that lands back on to the reset page with the [wppb-recover-password] short code only to have it ask this once again.

Please enter your username or email address.
You will receive a link to create a new password via email.

Anyone else having this issue, I am really regretting ever going with WordPress as it is the worst system out there. I have disabled all plugins except my theme “Avada” (It would be a major headache to disable) it and nothing works.

I changed the theme to Twenty Fifteen just to give it a whirl. Still no joy on password resets. Does the same exact thing so I am not sure what to do at this point.

Thanks for any help on this matter,

One more thing, I have the following system settings for security reasons. One, I have the WP installed in a sub-folder installation and I have moved the wp-login to a special address to keep bots from exploiting the site. I am able to reset the password with a WordPress default password reset address but not with Profile Builder [wppb-recover-password] short code option.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

What version of Profile Builder are you using?

Are you using a caching plugin? Can you exclude the Recover Password page from being cached?

If this doesn’t help please submit a support ticket. I will wait for your ticket and we will continue our conversation there.

    Hi Teodor,

I am using Comet Cache Pro for my caching. I have disabled it and deleted it with no change in how the reset functions.

I am using Version 2.5.9 on Profile Builder, I always keep my plugins up to date.

    I will submit a ticket.

You know what, as I was writing up the support ticket the only thing I can’t completely get rid of is the SendGrid plugin for sending emails. I checked that and sure enough it is changing & into #038 and that is breaking the link as it should convert to an &

Is there a way to get rid of the & symbols and maybe do something else. I have contacted SendGrid about this and we’ll see what they say.

    Hello Ross,

Have you tried to not click on the link receive it, but try to copy it and then paste it in your address bar to see if the password reset will work ?

If yes, then the problem is exactly as you are describing it, something is changing the symbols in the URL and it is causing it to not work correctly.

You also said that you ‘moved’ your wp-login page, how exactly did you do that ? Can you maybe revert that and try again ? If what I wrote above is not accurate at all.

    Let me know !

    Regards.

So with the login at the default area it is still doing it. When you copy the address manually it works but when the system using tracking it applies a custom tracking link and that is where the problem occurs.

It has everything to do with the & symbol and the email converting it to ascii

At every & it is converting it to #038 and ascii to symbol converting equals the & symbol.

I am hoping that I can fix this but I am not sure if it is possible. I turned off the tracking option on all outgoing emails and it still does the same thing so it is something in the mailer that is causing it. If I could apply Googles Goo.gl Shortner API to the reset system it would fix it but I have yet to figure out if that is possible on my end.
