Password Reset Link Doesn’t Work

You may have an email client (Outlook) pre-fetching your email links ie reading the link content for protecting you from unsecure content and this will invalidate the link when you click it.

I’m using Gmail, and tried copying the link and pasting it directly into the browser – that did not solve the issue.

Do you have WP Mail or SMTP Mail?

I do not have any SMTP plugins installed.

I don’t think the issue is the email — the link sent appeared to be uncorrupted as far as I could tell and followed this format:

[siteurlcensuredbyme]/password-reset/?act=reset_password&hash=[hashremovedbyme]&user_id=[##]

Gmail has the same issue of pre-fetching as Outlook.

Install and use SMTP Mail relay is the solution.

I’ve gone ahead and added SMTP, but the reset password link still isn’t working. I’m still getting the exact same “Your password reset link appears to be invalid. Please request a new link below.” message.

Try this code snippet where the hash is not being used until you click on the page link.

Have you made any customizations to the password-reset.php file before release of UM 2.3.0?

I figured out the issue — the page builder (Divi) I had active on that page was apparently causing the conflict. Stripping the page of all content except the shortcode solved the issue.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with this — shoutout to @missveronicatv for the code which made it possible for me to rule out email being the issue
