Frustrating. Last week I worked on creating a process for users to be able to reset their own passwords with a custom message. Tested extensively and everything worked perfectly.

Now I am getting “Password reset is not allowed for this user”. After reading tons of posts regarding this none of the scenarios fit me. One thing I did discover is that the RESET PASSWORD words for Administrators, however all other permission levels display “Password reset is not allowed for this user”. Once again this was working perfectly fine last week and no plugins have been installed or updated since I completed my testing.

The main purpose of this is for my subscribers for Membership 2 Pro.

    Is this your custom design?
Or, are you using a plugin for it? Which plugin?

It is just a process, no plugins. I noticed that some people were referencing a specific security plugin, but there are no such plugins installed. The below is installed, but like I said was working just fine and now only Admin users can RESET PASSWORDS.

    Force Strong Passwords

I installed this plugin to craft the custom e-mail message:

    Custom Forgot Password Mail

Does anyone know why this this would be happening:

“One thing I did discover is that the RESET PASSWORD words for Administrators, however all other permission levels display “Password reset is not allowed for this user”.

I just tested this again. Admins can reset their password, all other users can not.

Sounds like you have an issue in your custom coded solution.

The problem is that I didn’t code anything for this. Everything was working great then all of a sudden this started happening.

    From your first post:

Last week I worked on creating a process for users to be able to reset their own passwords with a custom message

which would seem to imply that you created a custom-coded solution.

What I meant by “process” is just documenting the steps and creating custom e-mails for end users to be able to reset their passwords. I did not do any coding, just documented the steps.

I can’t find anywhere to allow anyone except Admins the ability to reset their passwords.

Let’s be as specific as possible, and maybe we can figure it out..

Last week I worked on creating a process for users to be able to reset their own passwords with a custom message.

    – How? How did you accomplish the custom message? What did you change, and where did you change it?

“Password reset is not allowed for this user”

    – Is your site stand-alone, or a Multi-Site network?

    – Are you using the “Theme My Login” plugin? Are you using any other login security plugins that have the capability of changing the default “allow_password_reset” settings?

This site is using the Bones Framework.

For the custom message I installed this plugin:

    Custom Forgot Password Mail

I disabled the default e-mail message as it did not actually work.

    This is a stand-alone site: https://groecoachinggroup.com/

I am not using “Theme My Login” or any other plugin to my knowledge that would change “allow_password_reset” default settings. Below is a list of all installed plugins:

    Advanced Custom Fields Pro
    Akismet
All in One SEO Pack Pro
    Category Wise Search Widget
    Custom Forgot Password Mail
    Events Manager
    Force Strong Passwords
    Gravity Forms
    Manage Notification E-mails
    Membership 2 Pro
    Team
    Wordfence Security
    WP User Avatar
    wpMandrill
    WPMU DEV Dashboard

    Manage Notification E-mails

Settings > Notification e-mails > make sure the box labeled “Password forgotten e-mail to user” is checked and save the changes. Log out as admin and then try the password reset link as a normal user account.

If that isn’t the problem, then temporarily disable all of your plugins, log out, clear your browser cache and see if the symptom changes. If it does, re-enable your plugins one by one until you find the conflict.

BRILLIANT! I can’t believe it was that simple. This solved the issue:

    Settings > Notification e-mails >

Thank you so much for the help.

    You’re welcome!
