    Hi,

I’m trying to set up a download primarily to ensure that bots and search engines don’t index it. I have configured the plugin to download the file by unchecking the option to try to open the file in the browser but it still opens in the browser rather than downloading.

I tried to implement password using both wordpress password and the Lock Option in your plugin and neither works. With wordpress password added the page just opens rather than asking for a password. With Lock Option password enabled there isn’t a form displaying to enter the password and when you click the download button the Download gif displays for a few seconds and then the home page loads. I assume this is because I didn’t enter the password but there wasn’t a place to enter the password being displayed.

When I try to use the Captcha option it behaves similar to the Lock Option for password. The ReCaptcha doesn’t display to check it, the Download gif displays when you click the download button and then the home page loads but you don’t get the file downloaded or opened.

The only way I have been able to get the download button to work properly is with no password or ReCaptcha but in this case the file open in the browser rather than downloading and therefore is displaying the file URL which is what we are trying to hide.

I have reviewed all of the settings 3 times to see if I missed something but I haven’t found anything that is related.

Ideally, I would just like something to work – either password protect option would be great or alternatively the ReCaptcha to display. And in any case, I would prefer that the file downloads rather than opening in the browser so that the URL remains hidden.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Pat

OK, I changed the template to the Extended Template and now both the ReCaptcha and Password work as expected.

However, the file still opens in the browser window rather than downloading.

Is there any way to force the file to download rather than opening in the browser window? It is a pdf file.

    Thanks,
    Pat

    Hi @wlpdrpat

    Greetings for the day!

Please Uncheck the Open in Browser option in the WPDM>Settings>Basic, which should resolve the issue.

    Here’s the reference screenshot: https://prnt.sc/WUa7pcvXMFRg

I hope it will work for you.

That option is unchecked and the pdf still opens in the browser window rather than downloading. It is possible that the browser I am using just opens pdfs by default rather than downloading. However, on many sites that I have accessed pdfs they will download rather than opening in the browser. For the moment, I am happy enough that I was able to get the ReCaptcha and password to work as expected but ideally the pdf downloading as expected would be great.

    Hi @wlpdrpat

    Thank you for the details.

To resolve the issue, please attach the pdf file through the server browser instead of adding it from the Media Library by following this: https://prnt.sc/0m6f2unNhXyC.

I hope it will resolve your issue.
