password protection (not blog related)

  • I’m trying to password protect a directory on my site that is located in the same root directory as wordpress. However once I get it protected, the directory just redirects to my main website. It never prompts for a password.

    Same thing if I just type like mysite.com/blahblahdoesntexist
    or something, it doesn’t give a 404, just redirect to main site.

    I suspect this has something to do with wordpress’ .htaccess file. Could someone shed some light on this?
