Password Protected Splash Page?

Hello all,

My name is Russ and I’m still pretty new to setting up WordPress sites, recently I’ve been trying to create somewhat of an exclusive site that requires a password, but I don’t know how to go about it.

So what I’m picturing is you would go to my website https://www.example.com

Which would then lead you to somewhat of a splash page, where you can’t really see much about the site,

and to pass through the splash page, you would need a password, which would then take you to the official home page of the website.

I would gladly appreciate if anyone would give me any tips or direction on how to go about this, keeping the fact that I’m somewhat of a beginner in mind. Hope you can help!
