• We are just in the planning stages of our website and hoping to use WordPress to simplify the process as none of our band members are gifted in HTML. ?? Is it possible to have just one page/section of the site password-protected? I’ve looked at a couple of password plugins but it sounds like they are for the whole site. We will have a main page for public viewing, but also need a page where members can log in and post/upload things.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

This is built into WordPress. Just put in a password when creating the post or page. Look on the right hand side of the Write page, in the Password box.

Also, the “page where members can post things” is the WordPress admin pages. These are password protected to the individual users already.

Thank you – by ‘posting things’ I was talking mostly about the ability to upload pdf or mp3 files for other members to download. Will this be possible with this platform?

Thank you again for your time.

There’s an upload box built into the Write Post screen. Scroll down, and you can upload PDFs and MP3s and such and put their links directly into your posts.

WordPress is nice. ?? You will see.

Thank you – it is good to know that I could easily upload files through the posting. Is it possible to set up a page where, after entering the password to the page, someone could press a button right on the page (i.e. without logging into WordPress and posting via admin) and upload something? I will be doing the site development stuff for the group and the others are not comfortable having to log in and find the posting page, etc (I know it’s easy, but they’re wanting super-easy click a button on a webpage). I’m starting to think this isn’t going to be possible… Might just have to email everything to me and I’ll post it myself.

Sure. WordPress does not have this sort of functionality, but you could conceivably create a page to do this. It would be custom work, probably not too difficult for somebody with some PHP skills.

Well… i’m trying to do something similar but have no answers yet. There’s a lot of plugins but none of them is the thing that i am looking for.

You know what i was thinking maybe… We can create a HOME at yoursite.com/ and then create a HOME for premium suscribers at yoursite.com/siteprotected/… in the /siteprotected/ folder there’s another wordpress platform installed with a “password to whole site”.

So when the user goes to yoursite.com see the LOGIN BUTTON… and it will send him to the LOGIN.php of yoursite.com/siteprotected/

am i being clear? sorry ’bout my english…

    ??

Hey, Dem! This sounds like a clever solution. How you tried it yet? Does it work? Thanks in advance, Anjelina

    hi,
I am trying to accomplish the same thing however, I would like it if it weren’t on a different site. more like password protecting specific pages with only one password, the one the users login with. So that they won’t have to re-type the password every time they enter another page or when they re-visit the same page. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Alex

Note: I am going to try your idea Dem anyway because my client wants the site done in a hurry. (might not have time to wait for a solution)

Maybe try some of the suggestions from this thread?

    Hi Dem,
After a couple of hours of hard working I managed to get your idea working. The only hard part was when I had to redirect the login options.
If anyone wants me to write a walk through I would be willing to do so.
    Anyway thanks again Dem

    Alex

Oh and if you want to see the site go to:

@alex675: The issue that you might come across is that when it comes to upgrading WP etc. you’ll have to do it twice for both WP installations?

If you’re just thinking of locking a page so that only registered users can read it, it is possible to do this by using a page template (see thread link from previous post)

However, if you’re thinking of just locking down categories, maybe one of the plugins mentioned in this thread might be helpful?

    Hi Alex!

how did you set the register área in ?

you would go to your interior site and navigate to the register page then copy the url and make a link on the external site.
