I can password protect pages, but how about posts?

Did you try putting in a password in the “Post Password” field?

In the upper right area of your posting page, it is right there …
Not on mine… I am using my WP unchanged. Here’s my posting page.
I DO see that field on Pages, but not available for Posts.

What version of WP are you using? Check on the bottom field on dashboard, and tell us…

Switch to (Click) “Advanced Editing”
That was the trick I needed, thanks!
To set by default go to:
Menu > Options > Writing options > MARK Set When starting a post, show
