My password gets lost every day.

If I create a new password or keeps the one WP creates for me, makes no difference. I can only use them once. When I try to log in using a correct password I do not get the login in error message ‘Incorrect password’, but nothing happens. I have to order a new password every time I log in. Its getting quite annoying.

    Running WP 3.0.3

  • Getting no response, that is a blank page, usually indicates that the php is failing. If you aren’t getting a proper login error message then it could be failing to connect properly.

Try changing the setting in your wp-config.php of define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false); to true as this will display all error messages. Turn it to false again as soon as possible as users logging in will also see any error messages.

A manual upload of wp-includes and wp-admin directories may also help in case a file is damaged somewhere.

I’m getting the same problem as you Goutweed. Yet it works fine in several other WordPress installations I have – just this one.

I reuploaded the wp-admin directory manually. That worked for me, so you could try that Peter.

    Thx datasoftict.

Glad to help, hope it works for PeterJ42!

Unfortunately it only worked right after the upload. It seems I got the choice between uploading manually or requesting a new password every time I log in.

Have you access to your database? It seems as though if you can upload a new file and it works, but only once and if you change your password it works only once there might be a problem with the database.

If you can check the database and look into wp_users at the user_pass and make a note of the encoded password. Try changing the password again, check the password, then login and fail, check the password again. If we can clear the user name and password from the problem it might narrow down the search.

Thinking about it if you can use your ftp to check the contents of wp-admin after you resert and see if any files change data/time. I am wondering if you might have a compromised system, but this should show any changes not made by yourself.

For some reason I only have the problem with Chrome, so I guess it’s back to IE for the time being.

Could it be a privacy or session setting inside Chrome? How about with Firefox?

Only Chrome, Firefox is ok, so is IE. But I dont have problems with other WP installations, only 3.0.3

I have seen a thread about Chrome problems in the wp-haccker mailing list. I believe Chrome uses keychains(?) and that has caused some issues. As the wp-hackers are aware of the issue I would think that a fix will be sorted.

    I wait it out then.
Thanks once again for taking the time datasoftict.

Seems like either google or wordpress fixed the problem and Im back updating using Chrome once again.

I am also trying to log in and I have to change my password each time. Any ideas? It seems like I have the same problem using Firefox too.

ok. in the general settings the WordPress address (URL) needs to have not https:// … it has to be https:// also you can try putting the www in front of the address and it will force it to destroy a rogue cookie if their is one
