Passing a hidden value to salesforce

I am trying to update a custom field which is a checkbox field in salesforce.com when a specific web-to-lead form is received. I created a new field and named it with the salesforce field name API, set the Type as Hidden. If supported, do I need to pass a specific Value or Option?
