• Has anyone else had this experience? While trying to learn how to modify style.css on my chosen theme (changing colors and so on) and clicking on “update file” after each change, several times the last two-thirds of the style sheet disappears, in midline, not always in the same place but always in the same vicinity.

I cannot think of what I may be doing that could cause this, since I have not yet begun editing in the parts that disappear. So far I have been able to copy over from the original theme’s style sheet, but soon I will have edits in the part that has now disappeared several times.

Any experience with this out there? By the way, my skill level is Newbie, esp with .php

  • CSS is not PHP.
In the stylesheet there is nothing php. I never recommend the online theme editor for anything major – use it to correct typos, not to make big changes to your theme.
Edit offline on your computer: it is safer, you don’t have to make files writable and leaving your blog vulnerable. And always keep a backup (unmodified) copy of the files you are working on.
