Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in ../wp-includes/user.php on line 509

  • I’ve done a clean install of WP files to my root directory, created a brand spanking new database and updated the wp_config file accordingly. Haven’t even touched user.php and when I run the install I’m getting this error:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in ../wp-includes/user.php on line 509
    When I open the user.php file, this is not errant ‘.’ to be found.

    Suggestions?
