After installing WordPress using Softaculous, I receive the following error when clicking on the link — https://mentorcoach.com/wp/ — I assume is supposed to take me to my blog:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home2/kjkj/public_html/wp/wp-includes/option.php on line 225

I’ve searched the forums but haven’t found anyone who’s experienced this upon installation, and/or a solution that I understand. This is the first time I’ve created a www.remarpro.com site, and the first time I’ve accessed either CPanel or Softaculous. In other words, I’m a n00b — please don’t hesitate to spell things out very plainly…
    Thank you!!

  • Hi,

It seems that you might have installed some plugin in WordPress which is causing this error.
Does a fresh installation of WordPress via Softaculous cause this ??
You can open a ticket at https://www.softaculous.net/support and we will look into you issue and Resolve it.

The fresh installation does in fact cause this. I’ve communicated with various Softaculous support people, and they have also suggested this is resulting from a plugin I’ve installed — which unfortunately is not the case as I have not installed any plugins this happens right away.

I’ve since read a few other threads of people experiencing this problem. Some suggest going into a file and editing line 225; I do not know how/where to do that. If someone could walk me through plainly, I will attempt.

Others suggested it was an issue of an outdated PHP. Mine is version 5.2.14. Is this appropriate/up-to-date?

Anyone else experiencing/experienced this issue care to weigh in?

    Hi,

Sir I have further debugged on this and it seems that you are facing this issue because you are using PHP Version 4

Please ask your host to provide PHP version 5.2+ so that WordPress can work properly.

Thanks. CPanel says we were/are running PHP 5.2.14. I’ve asked our host to update it to 5.2.4. Not sure if they have yet or not, but in any case it randomly started working yesterday. So I’m not sure?

In any case, thanks for all your help with and looking into this.

    Hi,

Glad to know that it works now.
