• So, I was trying to build my site using wordpress as recommended tome. I am not a programmer, and this is my first attempt at setting up a site myself.
I got this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/02/8715602/html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/functions.php on line 593

And have no idea what that means, or how to fix it. Any one have a solution for a n00b? My site is dead before it even lived…

  • it’s related to your themes. try changing back to the default theme.. Do you have a twentyten theme?

twentyeleven. I am not sure how I would change anything, since when I attempt to log in, it gives me the parse error, and I can’t even see the dashboard.

Rename your current themes folder using FTP. This will force WordPress to use the default theme and then you should be able to log into your dashboard. I hope this helps!

Would you be willing to step by step that for me? Total n00b here… trying to learn.

    1. Login to your hosting account using FTP, like FileZilla
    2. Go to wp-content > themes >
    3. Find your current themes folder
    4. Rename the folder. (this will automatically force WordPress to use the default)
    5. Log into WordPress dashboard
