try to compare your file with the one from an unedited theme;
click on the version on this list, then click on functions.php;

My client was locked out of her admin panel. I was attempting to add a snippet of code to beginning of file to reset password via ftp. Figured I was safe as long as I backed up the original file.

Thanks so much! I was looking for a backdated version of the file….uploaded the one from 2.4.2 (closest I could find) and it seems to have worked!
