Parentheses or brackets

Every time I use brackets or parentheses in my posts [with to-be-hovered-word in the brackets/parentheses], Hover does not highlight/explain the word unless I put an extra parenthesis before or after the word.
Let me explain: let x be the word. Then, [ x ] is hovered whereas [x] isn’t.
