• Hello,
I created a custom web site using a child theme for the Ari theme, about 3 years ago. Ari is no longer updated. I used Theme Check and noticed that there are some problems, although so far everything still works fine. I’d rather not have to redevelop the whole site, if possible. What is the protocol when a parent theme is no longer updated? Is there someone who could help me make changes to it so that it’s compliant, since the developer is no longer maintaining it?

This isn’t the first time I’ve had this issue- it’s happened with other child themes i’ve developed as well, where the parent is no longer maintained. I understand it completely, when the theme was free, but I was wondering what the best solution is.

    Thanks.

After two years, the theme no longer appears in the WPORG theme repo search and the theme’s WPORG page contains a warning highlighting that the theme may no longer work correctly.

Not here, no. You’d need to find (and pay for) someone to go through the parent theme for you and bring it up to date. You could try https://jobs.wordpress.net/

Where’s the best place for me to learn how to do this myself? I have this problem with several themes.

There is the widespread notion in these forums that if you use a child theme, your site will be future proof, but it really depends so much on whether the parent theme will continue to be maintained. I’ve learned that now, but I have a lot of highly customized child theme sites for clients, and am coming up against this more and more.
