parent item in menu

  • Hello,

    parent items in menu are not active.
    menu ex:
    cat1
    -subcat1
    -subcat2
    …

    when i click on cat1 to see all subcats on one page it only changes bg color and the submenu stays open, that’s a bit embarrassing for navigating.

    could you please suggest me how to fix this?

    can you explain the issue with context to your website?

    are you using theme option Open Submenu on Mouse Click ?

    when mouse is over the menu with submenu, the submenu opens. when not, submenu close itself. this works

    when i click on menu item without submenu, it opens a page with ?cat=44 for ex.. this works

    when i click on parent item of the menu with submenu, it also SHOULD open a page with all subcats in this cat.
    but it is not the case.. it just makes the submenu open down, and parent item button in menu changes its bg color.
    and previously active page keeps its menu button highlighted too.

    is it comprehensive ? sorry for my english… :/
    (you can try by clicking on LIVRES ANCIENS first then on ACCUEIL on my site, to see the result)

    i cant find Open Submenu on Mouse Click theme option..

    I hope you are using latest openstrap theme. If yes then

    Check Theme Options -> Basic Settings

    Go down on this page you have a check box for Make Parent Menu Clickable
    This is set to false by default. Check this box and save the options.

    Let me know if this works for you.

    oh no, i’m using 1.0.4
    i haven’t updated openstrap cause i’ve made a lot of small changes and afraid to lost them

    that’s the reason you need to create a child theme and add all modifications to it.

    yep, i’ve just thought about this.. ??
    so i will try to investigate about child theme.
    at the same do you think it is possible to just rename the 1.0.4 in order to keep all modifications and download and install new version, so i can start with child? i think yes..

    or is it any possibility to do “Make Parent Menu Clickable” in 1.0.4 ?
    maybe by changing in code ?

    you can get latest theme and do some comparision between old files and new version to know what changes you need to put in your child theme
