Parent and sub categories – Advice needed

  • If you have setup a parent category like

    Nike with sub/child categories beneath it like

    Nike
    – shoes
    – Apparel

    When you post, should you check both the parent and the child category or just the child category?

    I want to avoid duplicate posts being found on the site

    any insights appreciated

  • By WordPress standards, ANY category that has been designated a Parent category is not meant to be checked in the category hierarchy when writing posts. Meaning, only the latest generation category should be checked. Think of it like this, only the youngest generation gets the action.
