It is absolutely beyond me, why Gutenberg creates new blocks for every single paragraph. This is simply not the way I usually work with content. Especially not for the web where the paragraphs are relatively short.

But worse: If you copy/paste some paragraphs from Word, Gutenberg creates blocks (paragraphs). On the other hand: If you copy/paste the same text from Word to Notepad and finally to Gutenberg, it creates line breaks inside one single block. Huh? Where is the logic in that?

  • I like the each paragraph in its own block because I want to add additional blocks in between to spruce up the reading experience after I finished my writing. It comes very handy.

Have you tried to use the “Classic” block for your copy/paste needs? (not to be confused with the Classic Editor plugin)

You can call it via the inserter “Classic” or with the slash command “/c” – It has the classic toolbar and doesn’t break up your text into single blocks.

Let me know how that works for you.

Inserting text with line breaks does work with the Classic formatting, but how to go from there to the block system without breaking everything into blocks? Or in other words is there a way to have blocks with text that has line breaks.

I guess using manual line breaks (shift-enter) is the way to go?
