Paragraph text within tables

  • Im having some problems formatting text within the tables.
    Using the visual editor single line text is output within the table cell without <p> tags

    <td>Text</td>

    If i add a return and some more text i end up with 

    <td >Text</p>
<p>New line</p>
<p>Another new line</td>

    I have tried selecting the text within the table and select paragraph from the style drop down.

    Short of manually adding the missing <p> tags is there anything i can do?
