    Hi,
Since updating to 3.1.1, when I work on a Post draft, save it, and then come back to it later, bunches of paragraphs no longer have breaks. To put it another way, I’d have, say, 10 paragraphs, then when I come back to edit again, these paragraphs are now just one big blob of text with no line breaks, as if it’s one paragraph.

Then when I save again, it seems to stick.

There are so many different Jetpack items that are enabled on default that I can’t even guess which one it might be, unfortunately.

    Hi,

A couple of ideas: Can you disable the Grammar and Spelling module and try again? If that doesn’t work, can you disable all other plugins and try again?

Lastly, if it still fails, can you deactivate Jetpack and try again? Does it work?

With the updates between 3.1 and 3.1.1 and since we haven’t had other reports of this, I’m not sure what would be causing this, so I’m wondering if another plugin is (at least partly) to blame).

    Thanks!

    Hi Brandon,
Great idea. I tried disabling Grammar and Spelling and then attempted to make a similar set of paragraphs. They worked OK.

Then I tried re-enabling G&S, and did another attempt to recreate the problem. It seems to work fine.

Very odd, but so far so good, I’ll report back if I find out more.

I wanted to add that you’re great, and I appreciate your help. I won’t name names, but elsewhere on the forum I reported a problem, and very carefully explained the whole thing (I’m a pro developer) – the “answer” from a significant forum person was essentially “It works fine for me, so you’re wrong, the end”.

From a psychological point of view, understandable – someone is beleaguered with work volume and believes they’re right, so they deny there’s a problem. From a support point of view, it’s simply crap, but is actually very normal even in paid support.

    Thanks again for helping!

FYI – it’s hard to remember now in all the excitement – it seems to me that when this happened, there was a message about “there’s an autosave that’s different from what’s displayed” or whatever it is they say there.

The paragraph problem doesn’t seem to be happening now. I think I’ll mark this as resolved. And then if I see this again, I’ll either re-open if that’s possible, or start a new thread.

    Thanks, Dave

Thanks for the kind words. Support isn’t easy… sometimes folks you’re helping are pretty jerky, which can sour you for the day, which makes you into a jerk, and it becomes a nasty cycle sometimes.

If you have it start occurring for you again, please let me know and we’ll take a fresh stab.

    Cheers!

    Brandon,
    You’re very awesome. It’s that simple. ??

I even thought that maybe Chrome was causing the weirdness, who knows. It used to mess up list items when editing, adding dumb inline styling!

And with transients, lots of revisions, and browser caching, editing post/pages can be a witch’s brew of weirdness. ??

    Thanks again,
    Dave

    Hi,
Just a bit more information on this. I just did a post draft, and saved it. Then I went elsewhere in admin. I returned to my draft post, and the paragraphs were trashed – but there was a message saying “there is a version of the post, restore?” or something like that, and something about the browser cache. I restored that, and then my paragraphs were back.

Then I did another experiment, this time just looking at the good draft, changing nothing, and saving. Then I browsed away and came back. Paragraphs trashed with no restore message! I manually found a previous version, and restored that, and paragraphs were back. Frustrating!

So I guess it’s really something to do with the latest WP version and its handling of drafts and versions, not so much anything to do with Jetpack. It’s very hard to say. ??
