• I’ve read the other responses inside the forum about allowing paragraph breaks within a paragraph block. This, for me, is a deal breaker as a writer (I’ve given it a fair try). I will continue to use the classic editor until paragraph blocks allow for multiple paragraphs. I would like to suggest a solution: allow the “enter” key to create a paragraph break and “shift+enter” a soft return as is standard for word processor software. Allow “ctrl+enter” to create a new paragraph block. This is similar to how the keystroke creates a new page within a word processor. It keeps with convention.

I’ve considered hard-editing my install to reflect this (or writing a plugin). Can you direct me to where the keystrokes are for the paragraph block source code? I have’t been able to find them on my own.

  • Hi asatheren,

When you editing a text on WordPress press Alt + Shift + h (Option + Control + h for Mac) and you will see a list of keyboards shortcuts that you can use.

Here is an article with more information about it: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/21-most-useful-time-saving-wordpress-shortcuts/

    I hope it helps.

    Thanks Bruno,

Where is the functionality coded inside WordPress? I want to write my own code to override the function of the enter key so it does not create a new block. I want ctrl + enter to create new blocks. But I would like to see how the code handles the shortcut keys before I attempt to override it. The Enter keypress creating a new block is a deal breaker for me. I need to produce standard paragraphs within a single paragraph block and decide for myself where I want paragraphs to divide as blocks, such as around an image.
