Since updating to 3.7.1, I no longer have paragraph breaks appear in preview mode when writing a new post. Formatting, however, looks fine in visual view. When switching to text view, WordPress automatically inserts <div style=”text-align: left;”></div>

If I change this to <p style=”text-align: left;”></p>, everything appears as it should in preview. I have been using this same theme now for over a year with no issues at all. Nor have I added a plugin since the upgrade. How do I fix this other than by manually changing every instance of <div> to <p> in the HTML editor?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Hi Esmi,

I solved my problem by removing some indent formatting I had done at the top of the post to set off some quotes. For some reason, WordPress continued to bracket every paragraph I wrote afterwards with these <div> html tags. As I mentioned, everything appeared normally in visual view, but not in preview.

I removed the indents, manually deleted all the <div> tags in text view, and everything appears to be formatting properly now, including new paragraphs.

Should the problem return, I will do as you suggest.

    Thank you for responding.
