pagination-style gallery with jscript

I apologize in advance if that’s not the appropriate forum, please let me know.

I’m looking for a plugin\way to attach a gallery in a post and display it as a slideshow with a horizontal scroll effect (slide indeed), AND i need to display a navigation bar with the image numbers linked to each image (1, 2, 3…) AND back\forward button links, preferably outside the image itself (i hope it’s clear enough, i can attach a pic of what i’m looking for, if needed).

I’ve tried some gallery plugins but with no luck.
I’ve thought about using the <!--nextpage--> quicktag to split my images through the post itself and then write some jquery stuff to get the scroll effect, but i think it’s a quite cheap dirty way, since i need to do this quite often with a large number of images.

Any advice?
