    Hi there,

I’ve been using WF for a few years now and this issue is a first. On a couple of sites on my Green Geeks VPS, when i try to get to the WordfenceOptions page, I get redirected to the front end of the website, onto the 404 Error page.

I’ve tried to Deactivate and Delete Data so i can reinstall and configure. But that process redirects to the 404 Error as well.

Any tips on what I should try next to fix this issue. I looked through the forum but did not find a similar situation / support topic.

    Regards,

    Sammy

  • Even though it’s a 404, it’s actually related to a ModSecurity block. It’s not just WordfenceOptions that gets blocked, but other similar Wordfence pages. This is the exception I went with in my modesec2.user.conf file that keeps the focus narrow so the rule still applies elsewhere. 90520 is a custom id, so you can use your own preferred ID if you have a conflict.

    # Wordfence Options
    SecRule REQUEST_URI "/wp-admin/admin.php\?page=Wordfence" \
      "id:'90520', \
      phase:2, \
      t:none, \
      nolog, \
      pass, \
      ctl:ruleRemoveById=390149"

    Hi @srmarketing

From what we can tell so far, the problem is with Atomicorp’s Mod Security server based firewall rule with ID 390149.

If your hosting provider is able to disable only that rule for now, that would be better than disabling Mod Security altogether.

We can’t guarantee that Atomicorp won’t make a similar rule with another false positive in the future.

Thanks for the help. Hosting support confirmed the issue and whitelisted the rule for me. Everything is back working as it should.

    Hello !
I had the same problem with Wordfence: accessing the page /wp-admin/admin.php?page=WordfenceOptions error 404.
After reading wfphil’s recommendations, I found how to deactivate id 390149 in the firewall on my hosting.
This solution was a great help to me!
    Thanks to you!
