Pages versus Posts?

Please don’t roll your eyes and moan at my stupid question but, I couldn’t find any answer in the support pages or by searching the forums.

What are pages versus regular posts?

I want to set up a section or more of my blog like an ezine. But, it’s a hassle to add in the archived articles as I will have to make up dates for them all to avoid having everything all clumped together.

Would using Pages help with this somehow? Or would Pages make more sense in my overall organization?
