• hi

i’d like to create several pages, each showing posts from a single category / single tag.

for example i have posts about cats and posts about dogs.
i’d like them to be in seperate pages

    1. what’s the difference between categories and tags?
    2. what’s the best way to to it?

    thank you very much

    Lenny

  • 1. Do a Google search on ‘wordpress category vs tag’ to find lots of articles about this. One I like is here:

    2. Use Categories for major groupings and Tags for micro-groups. For example, you might have a Category of ‘Dogs’ to group all posts about dogs. You might assign the breed of dog as a tag since creating a sub-category for every breed can lead to a very long category structure.

That is what a tag and category pages do. They are built right into the system. You can add the categories widget to the sidebar or bottom bar (if your theme has a side or bottom bar). WordPress includes a tag cloud widget as well, but some don’t like the cloud effect. There are a variety of tags plugins though.

If your theme supports custom menus, then you can add categories and tags to the primary navigation, or if it doesn’t support them in the primary navigation, you can use a custom menu widget in the sidebar.

    hi

thanks for the answers but i didn’t find what i was looking for.

on my site, i created a page called “blog”. it’s empty.

in setting>reading i defined it as the posts page.
    it shows all the posts.
it shows title, author, date, content etc, with the theme design.

i want to do exactly that but showing posts only from one category (or tag).
anf then create several pages like that.

if i use plugins like: “get_post” or “Category Show” or “List category posts” i only get a list of links to the posts.

i want the page to look like a posts page, only showing posts from one category.

    thanks

If you are using the WP Menu system found at Admin->Appearance->Menus, you can just add a category to your menu. Select the category in the dropdown box at bottom right of that page and click ‘Add to Menu’.

If you are not using the menu system, the Page Links To plugin mentioned in the article I linked above will do exactly what you want.
