    Hi,

I have 3 wordpress sites in development. After the 4.01 update one of my sites is acting weird. Within the wp admin when I click on posts, pages and forums I get a blank white page, yet everything else on the left menu seems to work normally. The site was fine prior to the update. I have contacted my theme developer, my hosting company and nobody says they can help. I have no clue what is going on.

Fyi in the dashboard under Activity – Recently published, there are two of my posts, when I click on them I can access the post, yet if I click on posts on the left menu, only a white page.

    Please advise. Many thanks!

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi,

Thanks for your response. I already tried that with no luck.

Ok, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

I downloaded 4.01. So just to confirm…your saying I should delete all files except the wp-config.php and the wp-content folder. Thus everything else below I should use to replace of the the exiting files? I just want to be sure I don’t cause any further issues. Thanks

    index.php
    license.txt
    readme.html
    wp-activate.php
    wp-admin
    wp-blog-header.php
    wp-comments-post.php
    wp-config-sample.php – don’t replace
    wp-content – don’t replace
    wp-cron.php
    wp-includes
    wp-links-opml.php
    wp-load.php
    wp-login.php
    wp-mail.php
    wp-settings.php
    wp-signup.php
    wp-trackback.php
    xmlrpc.php

Yes, that is correct. Though you should also have “wp-config.php – don’t replace” in that list. ??

Thanks for your help James. So nothing else needs to be removed except what is in the list above?

That’s correct, you’re just replacing all of the WordPress core files, by way of deleting the original files first (because some FTP clients suck at simple replacing).

That seemed to work. Many thanks! Any idea what it could have been?

    You’re welcome!

More than likely, one of the files didn’t copy correctly during the update. It’s rare, but it can happen.
