Pages not locked

    I have successfully LOCKED a couple of posts. However, I tried to lock PAGES and while it puts them in the list of locked pages, the icon next to the page in the pages list shows an UNLOCKED padlock and the word PROTECTED, instead of LOCKED. I logged in as an Editor and could NOT edit the locked posts but I could edit the “protected” pages. What is going on with LOCKED vs PROTECTED and how can I lock my pages? I am the admin of the site but also setup a new user as an Editor to test this. My testing failed when it came to locking pages.

    Hey dgibb,

    I have looked into this but I am unable to replicate your issue. On a clean install of WordPress, using the twentytwenty theme and having PostLockdown installed as the only plugin, adding pages to the Locked list locks them as expected.

    Is it possible that you have some other plugin or some theme code which is manipulating user capabilities? PostLockdown works by checking that the user has the ‘manage_options’ capability – if they have this capability they are classed as an admin and bypass all checks. There may be something on your install which is giving Editors that capability for pages.

    Of course I am just speculating here and this may not be the exact issue.

    If you are able to replicate this issue on a clean install (default theme, no other plugins) I am happy to look into it further.

    I don’t have any other permission management tools installed. I’ve been using wordpress for years and just now had a need to LOCK DOWN specific pages. This tool seems like the perfect solution. Except that pages and posts do not appear to be working the same.

    I setup a user as an EDITOR…and they see Posts that are LOCKED and Pages that say PROTECTED…yet they can still edit those protected pages. What does PROTECTED mean and why aren’t they showing LOCKED like the Posts show as LOCKED? Posts seems to be working correctly, but Pages are just flagged as “protected” and not “locked”.

    Hi @dgibb,

    It sounds like you have added your pages to the protected list, not the locked list.

    Protected posts are those which can still be edited, but cannot be trashed/deleted by non admins. Locked posts cannot be edited, trashed or deleted.

    If you go to the plugin settings page, make sure the pages are in the Locked list (the top one), and not the Protected list.
