Pages, how to look different…

I’m pretty new to all this and I wanted to create some extra pages on my site (About, Links, etc) however the pages I create look like another blog page, is there anyway to just add a simple page with out all the comment panels etc on it. (Note: I have turned off commenting but the panel still appears)
