After the problems with version 2.6.x I have now installed the new version 2.7.0. As soon as I edit a page and save it again, the plugin automatically creates an expiration date from the current date! Auto-Enable is set to Disabled.
Many customers have already called because their page is no longer accessible (because these are then saved as a draft) .
    WP 5.8.2. Theme GeneratePress.
What can I do about it?
    Thanks

  • We are having this issue, as well. It seems to be limited to existing pages, we didn’t see it when on new pages that were created after the update.

We are having the same problem with version 2.7.0. This is EXTREMELY undesirable behavior as it’s easy to forget to turn off the unwanted expiration date when all we did was log in to update a page, and if we forget then key pages on the website can suddenly disappear. We also have “Auto-Enable” disabled.

@bghooke @michaelnewsomejr @mgpp Please test this pre-release version of the plugin and let us know if it helps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4se1xrdtzw9jknc/post-expirator-2.7.1-rc.3.zip?dl=0

Thank you for the speedy response, Steve. Sadly, this does not appear to have resolved the problem. Curiously the issue does not arise on all pages. I tried the pre-release version first on a new site I’m working on now and I was not able to reproduce the problem there with either 2.7.0 or 2.7.1-rc.3. Then I switched to the site that first reported the problem to me, that has pages published over the course of the past few years. There I was able to reproduce the problem with no apparent difference between the 2.7.0 and 2.7.1-rc.3. Oddly, not all pages exhibited the issue but I’d say that 90% did. I could not find a pattern as to which pages did and which pages did not.

Hello, same problem here, seems to happen on page that have not been updated yet.
If you create a new page it’s OK, but when you update it later, post expiration is checked.

    Hello guys.

Thank you all for the feedback. We are looking at that issue, but we are not able to replicate it on our sites. But we have another reports for a similar issue…

Please, could you check if you have object cache enabled on the site? If so, please could you let us know what hosting company you are using?

    No object cache.

The site I observed this on does have “endurance cache” enabled. It’s set to “normal (level 2)”. The host is Bluehost. I tried turning it off and it did not have an immediate impact on the issue. When this problem occurs the expiration date and time set in PublishPress Future is the date and time I opened the page to edit it, so this is not just a question of the check box selection being cached.

For what it’s worth, I checked five sites that I manage that use PublishPress Future and found the issue on 3 of the 5 sites. I could not find any pattern as to which sites and which pages within those sites exhibit the problem.

We are also experiencing this issue when editing old posts on a variety of sites which are hosted with different providers which we feel eliminates the caching issue previously discussed.

We are also experiencing the issue on 2.7, when downgrading to 2.3 the issue is resolved.

Like others, the issue does not seem to occur on all pages/posts. For us, it only occurs on posts where expires is set to ‘Never’ before publishing any edits.

    Hi Guys,

Thank you for all the feedback.

We have a new RC version addressing this issue. Please, could you try the following package?

    Hi @andergmartins,

    Thanks for looking into this.

Unfortunately, the issue is still present with the new RC for me.

We can get around this by unticking Enable Post Expiration in the post editor, but this is often missed by content editors.

It looks like the checkbox is defaulting to checked when it shouldn’t be.

Hi, Does the post_meta name changed? I think that it happened on old post that have never been updated, and only on update. Maybe a change has been on Post Expirator and the older post don’t have the right post_meta so the the checkbox is checked by default.

    Hello @andergmartins,
I am glad it is going forward with this problem.

With the RC version it is also with us exactly as @kyebuff described.
