• My blog, https://fountofinspiration.com/, main page is working fine. But all of my posts and pages take you to an Error 404 code! I can’t add anything new or change anything, it all takes you to that error page.

I contacted godaddy and they said it was a wordpress problem,
“After reviewing your account and your website, the error is being caused because the pages the links are going to do not appear to be there listed. However, since your site is created with WordPress you will have to verify that your information with WordPress is properly set in order to resolve this issue.”

I also cannot install or uninstall themes or plugins from wordpress, I get “connection information” page asking me to fill in my hostname, FTP username, FTP password and connection type. I don’t know what godaddy’s hostname is.

I have no idea what is going on to fix this! I went into my Godaddy FTP and uninstalled all my plugins…this did nothing.

    Thanks!

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

Thanks, what do you mean resetting them? Right now I have them set up for post name and have never changed that since I set up my blog. Also, I can’t even post new content with a generated URL?

Set the permalinks to the default setting.

Actually it does look like it worked!!!! You are a LIFE savor!!! Thank you so much! It must have taken a few minutes to kick in.

No idea what I did to change that and cause it to not work. But thank you ??

It could have been a corrupted .htaccess file – something that can happen on occasion. Try deleting the existing .htaccess file in your site’s root folder using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides (note: you may have to configure the application to show all files – .htaccess files are often hidden by default). Then try setting your custom permalink structure back up again and you should be fine.
