• I’m working offline on my localhost. My home page displays just fine but any internal pages or posts I navigate to give me a 404. When I change my permalinks to default and save changes everything works just fine. But when I change permalinks back to Post name and save changes I get 404s again. I deleted my .htaccess file and tried saving changes to my permalinks again, but get the same results. Can someone help explain what I’m missing here? Oh yeah, and I’m not able to save my .htaccess file after I make changes to it either. What’s that about?

  • I’m about to suggest something that may sound dumb, but that happened to me before: Are you able to see the Admin Dashboard? Check the URL and SITE address under Settings for extra spaces at the end or trailing slashes. If you can’t see the Admin Dashboard, check via the database under the “options” table.

Another option is to make sure that mod rewrite is enabled. There’s a thread here discussing how. Third option: check the AllowOverride settings.
