• I am fairly new to WP so this may be stupid or there is a plugin, I haven’t found.

    I created a page with multiple links. I want to place this page under a category listed on the sidebar, but it insists on going to the top level menu which I don’t want.

    So far, I’ve been able to set it as private so it is not seen on the top menu bar, but when it is clicked on, under the category (using the Permalink ID from the private listing), it shows PRIVATE (title name). I don’t want the word Private either, because it isn’t. I just want it on under category on the sidebar and not on the top level menu.

    Help for the dummy would be appreciated. I will have a lot of these as the site develops.

    As an aside, I don’t want to put it in a post just to get the permalink, but will if that is the only way.

  • Can you please post a link to your site, so anyone might help you ??
    And please unset the private option… private sites only see registered user like you ??

    Here is the link:

    https://northandsouthnovels.com/

    I only have less than 10 pages and 2 posts and all are set for public viewing. There is no private setting anywhere.

    As you will notice on the top menu, you’ll see a link entitled North and South Screencap Zips. I don’t want that on the top menu. I wanted one page to list all 4 files and place that one page under Screen Captures on the right sidebar.

    Did you make use of the Custom Menu Function (Appearance > Menus)? If not, try it out so you can prevent to auto add this page to your main navigation, but then the menu is very manually ??

    Getting it in the sidebar
    Go to Appearance > Widgets and chose a “Text Widget” and move under the categories widget. Paste this html into your textwidget

    <ul>
    <li><a href="https://northandsouthnovels.com/?page_id=353">North and South Screencap Zip</a></li>
    </ul>

    I will try that again. I remember playing with it and something wasn’t to my liking, besides not being able to figure it out – I think it was the fonts looked different.

    I’ve been designing websites since 1997. I have 5 sites of my own now, but these “websites in a box” are so constricting. It’s definitely a new learning curve for me.

    I will try your suggestions. Thank you.

    Later.

    I had success doing what you said, but I’m not further along than before. I have the same link listed under Screen Captures (second block down).

    Then I asked myself – how do I get rid of the link in the top menu bar. Can I delete the page?

    You can remove the unwanted page from Appearance > Menus this menu will look like you “design” it in Appearance > Menus.

    You’re a genius. That did it.

    Much appreciation for your time and help.

    Thank you.

    You’re welcome ??
    But i cant see any changes actually on your site?
