Page Templates not showing Page Editor content

    I’m *very* new at wordpress, so have mercy if this is a stupid question.

    I can’t figure out how to create page templates that will include the content I create in the WordPress page editor. For example, I have a template for an archive page. I create the archive page in WordPress admin, and in the editor I type “This is the Archives Page.” Then I apply my archive page template, and save. But when I go to view my archive page, all I see are the archive listings. The text I entered in the editor can’t be seen.

    I have tried looking at the code for other page templates, but I just can’t figure it out. Can anyone help me, please?
