Page templates in twenty thirteen

    I am working on a child theme for twenty thirteen and I would really like to change the layout of certain pages and add another sidebar.

    I have read through the Codex Page Templates page, but I am brand new to PHP and it’s way over my head and overwhelming.

    Is that the only way to make a page template? Do I just need to pick a different theme?
