I am working on a site, with custom Page templates.

    My steps:

    1. I have a page called “landing1” for which I am creating a custom page template without header and footer
    2. I went to Appearance > Templates > clicked + for new template > chose template for Pages in the modal window > selected landing1 as a page > and removed the header + footer > saved the template
    3. When I preview this page, it still shows header, footer
    4. I also clicked Edit page > Template part > and it doesn’t show me my template for this page I believe should be landing1. Attached screenshot of what I am seeing i.e. default templates, no my created custom template. Want to know what am I missing?

If you select “Default template” in the page editor, it should show a template like “Page: Landing1” being current. Then if you preview, you should see the version with no header or footer. Click the Update button to continue to use the default template.

Apparently your page already had assigned an alternative template for it, so your new template with no header or footer was not automatically used. You’d need to revert to “default” in order to use the desired template.

I know what is considered “default” is confusing. By assigning this page to a custom template in the site editor, you made it the default for that page. Only theme defined template names appear in the selection dialog, custom templates are inferred by making one of them the default for the page in the site editor.
