Page Template Help for Main Page

  • I don’t have a lot of experience with php, but I can figure out what the code is doing if I have to.

    Anyway, I want to create a page template for the homepage for my site, and I want it to look a certain way.

    I want to have an image and some text at the top, which I can handle, but beneath that I want it to display the most recent post from my blog category (and not from anything else).

    Below that, I would like it to display excerpts from the previous two entries. I would like, if possible, the rest of the page to continue using the theme that I have, so I don’t want the sidebars to go away or anything like that. Can anyone help me?
