    i’ve just noticed 2 bugs that must be there since one of the latest updates:

    – when i use the %%page%% tag in my page title or meta description everything works as intended on the front-end. however, in the wordpress admin it also counts which page i’m on: from the second page (wp-admin/edit.php?paged=2) on, the “page x of y” info appears in the page title and meta description columns.

    – for 2 of my posts the page title and meta description don’t show at all (anymore) in the admin columns. they appear on the front-end though.

  • Hi @getupworks,

    1.) In the edit screens, we do not expect the %%page%% snippet variable to appear in the snippet preview even when editing a post with page breaks. We weren’t able to reproduce the problem you’re having using the latest version of Yoast SEO (14.3). Can you give us more details about what type of page and where this is happening?

    2.) By default, the title and description columns will be hidden from the posts and page overview screens. Have you checked to see if you can enable these admin columns under the Screen Options tab?options/.

    hi @priscillamc,

    to appear in the snippet preview

    this is not about the google snippet preview, but about the admin columns: when looking at the posts list, from the 2nd page on (wp-admin/edit.php?paged=2) it shows the page number (“Page 2 of 5”) in the columns “SEO title” and “Meta description”.

    this worked as intended to 14.2 (aka the page numbers never showed up in the back-end).

    also my yoast settings use the posts excerpt as the meta description by default. the excerpt never showed up in the “Meta description” admin column, unless i wrote the description manually. this also has changed (might be intended), now i get the auto generated excerpt if there’s no description set by hand.

    Have you checked to see if you can enable these admin

    i do see those columns

    Would it be possible for you to share the relevant screenshots that highlights the relevant issues so that we can understand them better?

    @getupworks Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.4.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
    ?
    ?If you update to the most current version of WordPress, does this resolve the issue?

    If the issue is still occurring after confirming both Yoast SEO and WordPress are updated, this may be due to a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
    If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

    sure.

    this is a paginated post on the 3rd page of the posts list in the wp admin.

    this is a auto-generated meta description. this used to be empty up to 14.3, unless the description was written manually. i found this to be better.

    and for 2 posts page title + meta desc don’t show up at all anymore.

    please note: this is all about the wordpress back-end. on the front-end everything works fine.

    @devnihil
    yes, i’ve tried all that usual stuff: wp and all plugins run on the latest versions. the prob is still there after switching themes and/or disabling all plugins but yoast seo. the js console doesnt throw any yoast related errors.

    Thanks for sharing all the relevant information. This is very odd as the %%page%% template variable shouldn’t output the page number for the paginated archives in the WordPress dashboard overview page.

    Unfortunately, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

    1. create a paginated post (<!--nextpage-->)
    2. add the %%page%% tag to page title + meta description of this post
    3. make sure the post is on page 2,3,… in the wp admin posts list
    4. the page count will be there
    i can reproduce this bug no prob on several other installations, so i’m rather sure this is not site specific.
    recommending to buy the pro version to get better support seems a bit fishy, to say the least.

    sorry but i totally fail to see how you can not reproduce this bug. i’ve tested it with a few sites – see screenshot. each of these sites is hosted with a different provider and uses different themes and plugins. the bug happens every time. it even happens if there’s no plugin but yoast seo and the twentytwenty theme.

    @getupworks We’re sorry for the difficulties, but we’ve tried twice to replicate the issue but were unable to. We understand that you are able to reproduce the problem with only a default theme and Yoast SEO, but there may still be something specific to your environment that is causing the issue which is why we are requesting you submit the bug report.
