Page revisions: Can't copy just left or right side

  • I’m trying fix a revision of a page that got overwritten by someone else, but I only need to restore my parts that got deleted while leaving his changes. Since it’s impossible to selectively merge by line, I want to copy over the old and new versions and use WinMerge to easily copy the corrected lines back and forth.

    However, when I go to select the left side, it not only copies the line on the left side but also the right side. This is because both lines are in the same table row (in their own table data), meaning when I select the left line and keep going, it also selects the right line.

    Without being able to just copy the left side in one select, it’s going to take me an hour to fix the changes rather than 5 minutes in WinMerge.

    So they are doing it generally properly by putting the lines in a table, but are screwing that up by putting the right-side line in the same table. The way this needs to be done is have two tables, one for the left-side code and another for the right-side code. This makes each side selectable separately and much easier to modify revisions and fix errors. It’s very difficult right now and this would save me a lot of time.

    Is there any way we can get this fixed?

    It’s in the revision history. Open a page, scroll down, notice the Revisions box. If it’s not there, enable it in your Screen Options.

    I would really rather prefer to get a reply from someone who knows what I’m talking about.

    I moved you over to this forum as I think your suggestion has a better chance of getting attention.

    davehventurecapital, there’s no reason to be like that to kmessinger – He happens to know what he’s talking about, and was just confused by your description. It happens.

    This is an interesting problem, since usually people just want to revert the whole post, but you want to MERGE them. Sadly there isn’t a way to do that yet ??
