Page Plugin I’d Like to Have

I have a theme where there is a link bar at the top of the page in the header, where I put things like “bio,” “contact” etc. These were created as pages in WordPress, and then I added the hardcode to the header file. HOWEVER, now those pages show up redundantly in the sidebar get_page_list area.

I don’t like redundancy. I’d like to have the option of whether a new page I create goes into the page list pulled from the database. I’m sure this involves lots of fun coding and probably a new field in the database, but heck if I know how to do it. I may attempt to do my first plugin with this idea, but I’d welcome any help or suggestions you all have.
