• Just installed WP thru my Netfirms account. I enter the admin panel thru my host’s control panel. Every option, ie. Manage, Options, Write…brings me to “Page Not Found”. When I try logging on directly thru my browser…”Page Not Found”. The files are there, on the server…is it a directory problem? The host, Netfirms, automatically installed WP, so it was not an error on my part…this is maddening!! I installed another time, and was able to open the options page. But when I tried to update options…”Page Not Found”. HELP!

  • Sounds like a permalinks problem. Netfirms is problematic…. what sort of .htaccess file is in place on your install?

I don’t know what you mean. Treat me like the newbie I am.

Newbies should avoid from far that “firm”…
Their setup is a challenge even for a veteran! Get your money back and find a real host.

Well, okay, though I don’t want anyone to think I’m “talking down”….

And since I moved the last of my clients OFF Netfirms over a year ago (for a similar reason, among others), I’m really reaching back….

If you access your list of files in whatever they give you for a file manager these days, you may see a file named .htaccess. The content of this file “may” be something they have input “for you”. In which case, it may be interfering with the proper operation of wordpress (though one would of course assume that since NF installed wp, it would work OOB….)

If there’s a file like that, please copy and paste the contents of it to a post here. If there is NOT such a file, then you should probably see if you can get NF tech support to help you.

Can you reccomend a good one? I need a reliable, and reasonably priced host…preferably with good support.

Well, I can, but I prefer not to open that can of worms on this public forum. You may email me at vkaryl*at*bytehaven*dot*com, and I will give you a shortlist of very good hosts where wp runs with absolutely NO problems out of the box.

    I did just that. Thanks.
